Here is a clear cut example of the concept. The purpose of stacking is getting the monster you want leveled to max its skill, i.e. Brain Sip Level 60 with Critical Up (20). We'll use this card for the example. For the first part we're going to be using a variety of B/B+ cards with the Critical Up (1) skill attached. These can be any card with this skill. But we are going to be sacrificing them into a single B/B+ card to bring its skill to Critical Up (5). This will be the stack we are going to use to sacrifice to our Brain Sip Level 60. For this example we will be needing the following B and B+ versions of the following monsters: Jealous Black Wings Skeleton Dragon Bunyip Creep TriffidThese will be our stack cards used for sacrificing to make the stack. We already have a Jealous Black Wings+ in our library so we'll use this card as our stacker card. We will then boost her skill to Critical Up (5) by sacrificing any cards we get from the above list to Jealous Black Wings+ until she gets to (5). We now have a "stack" of Critical Up (5). We are then going to sacrifice our Jealous Black Wings+ with Critical Up (5) into our Brain Sip Level (60) with Critical Up (1) so that the chance of it gaining a skill up increases significantly. Keep in mind this does not guarantee a skill increase, it just increases your chance of it gaining a skill increase. We get a skill increase and our Brain Sip (60) is now a skill of Critical Up (2). By doing this you can increase your chances of increasing the skill beyond the very low chance of increasing your skill once the card is at max level.

so even though you have your skill stack monster to skill level 5 you only get 1 added to card you are upgrading? thats still only a 20% return on your skill stack method.

Wouldn't it just be easier to explain like this?
In Order to increase a skill of a certain monster, use another monster with the same skill and sacrifice it to the monster that u want to increase. The higher the skill level is for the monster u want to increase, the lower your chances are of increasing it, however the higher the skill level is of the card that's going to be sacrificed, the higher the % of increasing the skill of the card you want

So if the card to be sacrificed is 5 but the card to get the upgrade is 4 then the chance increases? The long explanation was actually after a very long back and forth between Tragic (a new player to DS), Nixum (A veteran of the strategy) and myself (New to the concept). So I used the opportunity to test a format for the upcoming strategy guide that I'm compiling in the forums.

So how do skill ups work with A's?
I have a Naga + (SB1) and a plain old Naga (SB1)
Will the plain old Naga skill up the + if sacrificed ?

Ooo yea . . . with stacks, does skills 5 work better than skills 4 when sacrificing a B/B+ to an A w/same skill?
How far should one stack for more bang for stack?

u should sacrifice the plan naga (sb1) to the Naga+ increasing the skill on the naga+ from (sb1 - sb2)
when you're sacrificing a monster and the skill of the monster u want to increase is level 1 just use the same level skill to sacrifice
example:
Lets say I have a paimon+ with (covert down 1) and then i have a vucub Caquix which is B+ but also has the skill (covert down 1)
what I would do is that I would sacrifice the Vucub Caquix to the Paimon+ increasing the skill from (CD 1) to (CD 2)
I would repeat that process until my Paimon+ has the skill level (covert down 4) the reason why i would use single skills on my paimon+ to go from (CD 1) to (CD 4) is because the higher the skill level is of a monster, the lower the chances are of increasing it.
now that my paimon+ has a skill level of (CD 4) i would start using skill "stacks" to increase the skill of my paimon i would start using a (CD 2-3) on my paimon to level his skill.
*NOTE: some times it may fail and sometimes it may work
when my paimon reaches a skill of ( CD 8+) i would start using ( Covert Down (4) stacks) to increase his level

ah also forgot to explain skill singles and skill stacks if you already understand then its all good for those that don't understand then here is what singles/stacks mean Skill Singles: Refers to a card with a skill of (1) with the intent to be sacrificed EX: Covert Down (1) Increase Party Attack (1) Decrease Enemy Defense (1) Critical Rate Up (1) Skill Stacks: Refers to a card with a skill of (2) or more with the intent of being sacrificed EX: Demon Down (3) Increase Party Defense (4) Decrease Enemy Attack (2) Health Up (5) Note: *When selling skill stacks, people usually buys stacks of (4) *Some people specifies the skill level they are looking for and will give a price on the skill level they want Also should have included this with the explanation above to avoid confusion for those that I confused I'm sorry Thank you!
